Michel Faigaux: Guest Instructor
Michel Faigaux was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, and is a graduate of the National Ballet School. He has danced professionally with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada and Alberta Ballet, as well as having an extensive guesting career, performing in China, Japan, Singapore, Europe, Egypt, Canada and the USA. He is also a world renowned guest instructor, teaching around the world and also back home for The National Ballet of Canada, Ballet Jorgen and Dance Teq in Toronto. Having danced many styles, and worked with many directors and choreographers, Michel’s classes are full of energy, musicality and ingenuity. He loves teaching all levels and brings tons of excitement to every class.
David Lucas: Guest Instructor & Stage Manager
David Lucas, born in Chorley, England, and was raised in Kelowna, B.C., Canada where he started dancing at the age of nine. His training began at the Canadian School of Ballet under the direction of Betty Farrally, the co-founder of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company. David later trained in Toronto and graduated from the National Ballet School. He also graduated from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School under the direction of David Moroni.
David joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company in 1988 where he danced for 14 years reaching the rank of Soloist before retiring in 2000. David danced many lead roles such as: Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante and Tarantella, David Nixon’s Beauty and the Beast, Butterfly, Mark Godden’s Dracula, Paquita, Don Quixotes Pas de Deux and Brian McDonald’s Pas D’Action. Some of his favorite roles were the Jester in Swan Lake, Puck in A Mid Summer’s Night Dream and Mercucio in Romeo and Juliet. It was with the RWB that he met his wife Lissette Salgado and was honored to have been able to partner and perform with her many lead roles in his career.
David has also performed in five made for television dance movies as well as the popular Children’s TV show “The Toy Castle” in which he played the Strongman. He has also been invited as a guest artist to perform in Japan with the Reiko Yamamoto Ballet Company.
David was also the Artistic Director for the Canadian School of Ballet Summer program which he and his wife, Lissette, directed for four years. David and Lissette choreographed and staged performances each year for the students of the Canadian School of Ballet. David later founded ‘The Stars of Canadian Ballet’ Company which brought together the best artists from the National Ballet Company, The Alberta Ballet Company and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company. This renowned group toured in Canada and performed in the closing ceremonies for the Pan Am Games in 1999.
David now enjoys being a Guest Instructor and Stage Manager for Artistic Dance Center.
Maribel Modroño: Guest Instructor
Maribel Modroño, a native of Cuba was raised in Miami. Florida. She trained at Ballet Etudes and the School of American Ballet as a scholarship student. She began her career with the Fort Worth Dallas Ballet and was then invited by Edward Villella to join the Miami City Ballet. She has been favored to dance leading roles in Balachine ballets including Jewels, Tchaikovsky’s Pas de Deux, Apollo, Who Cares? Allegro Brillante, Square Dance and The Four temperaments. Maribel later joined the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and received rewarding acclaim for her portrayals as Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, Madame Butterfly, as Kitri in Don Quixote and Aurora in Sleeping Beauty. In 2005, the role of “Marie” was created for her for the World Premiere of Terrance Orr’s The Nutcracker. Her seductive likeness of “Carmen” in Amedeo Amodio’s production thrilled audiences in an unforgettable event. Just recently she debut the National Premiere as “Allice” in Derek Deane’s Alice in Wonderland.
She has been favored among many accomplished choreographers such as Dwight Rhoden, Derek Deane, Glen Tetley, Kevin O Day, Matjash Mrozewski, Lori Stalling and Lynn Taylor-Corbett in staging of new ballet and original pieces. Maribel has also been an invited guests at many national and international festivals.
